Open House Chicago volunteers welcome visitors to the Chicago Board of Trade Building.

Volunteer for Open House Chicago

Volunteers provide essential support during the Open House Chicago (OHC) weekend by ensuring that visitors are properly greeted and informed. Each year during Open House Chicago, more than 1000 people volunteer their time in support of this cultural event.

Volunteer Greeters:

Volunteer Greeters can be found stationed at the entrance to all OHC sites controlling admission, answering questions and tracking visitor attendance. Greeters typically work one 4-hour shift, which leaves plenty of time to explore the city for the remainder of the weekend. Over 1,000 Volunteer Greeters are needed to make Open House Chicago a success.

District Coordinators:

District Coordinators are the high-level volunteers that circulate between sites and serve as the primary contacts between site hosts, volunteer "greeters" and OHC headquarters within an assigned community over OHC weekend.

All District Coordinators must work for a minimum of one full day (8:30-5:30 Saturday and/or Sunday) of OHC weekend.

Volunteer benefits:

  • Priority access at all OHC sites for you and a companion
  • 50% off a CAF membership
  • 15% discount at the CAF retail shop
  • OHC T-shirt and lanyard souvenirs
  • Two free CAF walking tour passes

Volunteer recruiting for OHC 2014 is now closed.
